Following Saturday's UFC on Fox 8 event, we asked MMATorch readers how they felt about the event and where it stacked up against the other UFC on Fox offerings. Here are some of those responses:
Brandon A. (via email): I have watched all the events that have aired free on Fox, FX, and FUEL TV. Without making a list and putting a whole lot of thought into it, I would say this event was a mid-low event overall compared to all the events; but with all the injuries that's not too bad, and if Rory vs Jake wouldn't have sucked it would have been mid-high overall. I enjoy all events that are free regardless.
Brian W. (via Facebook): I would rate it a 7. All of the matches had my attention except for MacDonald vs. Ellenberger. I was highly disappointed by their dull excuse of a performance. If they would have fought like two Top five Contenders then it would've easily been an 8.5.
MMATorch Forum User BFoe: I'm trying hard to recall one that was worse, but I just can't. This card was ravaged by injuries, and had no real star power of any kind. It felt more like a Fuel card. Obviously it's not the UFC's fault that the Rory-Ellenberger fight fell short, but it was just a very lackluster card overall on paper. The actual delivery was even worse. I can't complain too much because it was free, but I can't help but feel like maybe the UFC should've paid me to watch it.
Tobyus S. (via Facebook): On a scale of 1-10, I would rank this UFC event at minus 2. The lady brawl was a complete mismatch. The Lawler fight was exciting, but the MacDonald fight completely squashed all the show's momentum. Which of course was followed by 24 minutes of wrestling with a tap out, for all those people who hadn't changed the channel yet.
Kieran D (via email): UFC on Fox 8 was a card that won't get me excited at the thought of a re-watch. Carmouche performed well, as did Lawler, but the high stakes MacDonald-Ellenberger fight was stale and did dampen what was an ok night of fights. Johnson excited everyone with the sheer speed of his work in there, and made it a worthwhile event to watch, but to sit and re-watch that co-main event would be frustrating to see Ellenberger wait for the final bell.
Clint D. (via Facebook): Fox 8 was the worst of all the Fox cards. Mostly because of the lackluster performances of Ellenberger and MacDonald. Fox 4 is still by far the best Fox card.
MMATorch Forum User VisageArcane: Well it was definitely not in the top five. Robbie Lawler was very entertaining, because when is a head kick KO not entertaining? Mighty Mouse stepped up his game and delivered a good fight, but MacDonald and Elenberger dropped a huge egg shaped turd. Carmouche did what she was supposed to do, but I can't help but think they could have showcased a better fight for the women's division.
