By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief In the early morning hours here in the U.S., the FieLDS Dynamite!! 2008 card was taking place on Japan's New Year's Eve. A previously scheduled and anticipated lightweight bout between Joachim Hansen and Gesias Cavalcante was cancelled shortly before the event began due to an injury to Hansen; but in other lightweight action, Shinya Aoki became the first WAMMA Lightweight Champion by submitting Eddie Alvarez in the first round with a heel hook.
Also on the card, Melvin Manhoef knocked out Mark Hunt in :18 of the first round after taking the bout on short notice when Hunt's original opponent, Jerome LeBanner, came down with the flu.
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic took on the giant Hong Man Choi and used leg kicks to finish off the big man in the first round of the bout. A kick to the leg from Cro Cop buckled him and he was unable to continue and the bout was called.
Bob Sapp defeated the man masked as "Kinniku Mantaro," Akihito Tanaka, with a tko victory in the first round of their bout.
And in K-1 rules kickboxing bouts, both Alistair Overeem and Gegard Mousasi were victorious in the first round. Mousasi defeated Musashi via tko at 2:32 of the first round and Overeem picked up a knock out over Badr Hari at 2:07 of the first round in their bout.
