For the second time, UFC Hall of Famers may be facing off against one another this summer, but it won't be in the Octagon.
According to a report from MMANews.com, Mark Coleman and Ken Shamrock have been offered a fight against one another for an Impact Fighting Championship event in Australia, and Coleman has accepted the fight.
Coleman was cut from the UFC following his loss to fellow Hall of Famer Randy Couture at UFC 109 in February. He went 1-2 in the Octagon since returning to the organization two years after his last fight in PRIDE.
Shamrock's last fight came against late super heavyweight Ross Clifton at the WarGods event last February. He tested positive for banned substances after the fight and has been off the radar since then.
The IFC: Australia event is expected to come in July, and is also expected to feature a bout between Josh Barnett and Geronimo "Mondragon" dos Santos.
Penick's Analysis: Well, I guess all I can say is thankfully this fight isn't coming to any major organization. It's amazing that they haven't faced each other before, as both were big stars in the early UFC years, big stars in PRIDE and both are UFC Hall of Famers. Shamrock's got next to nothing left, as evidenced by his one win in the last six years being against the late Clifton in a fight he in which he got popped for steroids. Coleman looked terrible against Couture, so this is a fight with both of them desperately trying to cling to a fighting career that's honestly long since passed them by. For those wanting to see a "seniors division" in MMA, go ahead and check this fight out in July and see if you still feel that way.
