By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief Quinton "Rampage" Jackson pities the fools that think he'll lose to Rashad Evans. That's right, the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion will be taking on a role other than "fighter" or "coach" when he steps on set to play B.A. Baracus in the new A-Team movie, currently in pre-production.
First reported by U.K. publication The Sun, Jackson joins a cast headed up by Liam Neeson as Hannibal, and "The Hangover" star Bradley Cooper as Face.
The role of Baracus was originally played by Mr. T in the five season run of the television show in the 1980's, and was the role that made Mr. T famous. Jackson reportedly beat out rappers The Game and 50 Cent for the part.
The film is set for a 2010 release date and will be filming in Canada.
Penick's Analysis: It's yet another Hollywood remake of an old television show, and so far movies such as "Starsky and Hutch" and "The Dukes of Hazzard" haven't given this concept a great track record. That said, this is a role that could be highly entertaining from the charismatic Jackson. There's already been some photoshopped pictures posted with Jackson's face in the Mr. T haircut and outfit, and it works; the look fits. Whether the movie's any good or not will be irrelevant as it's assured to get a whole lot of MMA fan eyes watching it just to see what Jackson does in the role. It will be an interesting experience to say the least.
