By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief If Tito Ortiz is to be believed, there's a large possibility we may see him back in action before this year is out. A report at FiveOuncesOfPain.com states he's saying he's close to signing a four fight deal with Strikeforce and could debut this fall.
The comments are reportedly from Ortiz while being the guest of honor at last night's UCFC "Clementi vs. Jensen" show in Pittsburgh at the Mellon Arena.
Ortiz told the crowd in the Mellon Arena that he was not only close to signing a contract with Strikeforce, but that he could also face Renato "Babalu" Sobral at a Strikeforce event in October.
He also reportedly stated he'd like his fourth and final contracted fight to be a catchweight bout between himself and Fedor Emelianenko.
Penick's Analysis: Until the pen touches paper being guided by Tito's hand it's hard to put much merit into any signing discussion, even from Tito himself. Last year alone he was "close" to signing deals with EliteXC and Affliction that never came through, so again until he steps into a ring or cage again people will only briefly speculate on the possibilities. A bout with Babalu would definitely be a good one, but he'd be crazy to fight Fedor.
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
