Melvin Guillard has received his release from the World Series of fighting.
The former UFC fighter was quite unhappy with the organization heading into a scheduled fight at WSOF 20 earlier this month, leading to some heated comments towards matchmaker Ali Abdelaziz in particular.
Following his scathing interview making the rounds, WSOF officials pulled him from the card, and said he failed to provide medical information into the event. WSOF President Ray Sefo also blasted Guillard for being unprofessional, and the entire situation made all parties look bad.
Now, rather than get held up under contract with an organization he doesn't want to be involved with, his manager Malki Kawa said on Thursday that he's been granted his release, and expects to have a new fighting home soon.
I just received what I asked for from wsof which is the release for @Young__Assassin... Should have a new home for him shortly. #Frm
Penick's Analysis: There would have been no point for the WSOF to hold onto Guillard, so they made the right move parting ways with him. He'd have remained disgruntled after getting pulled from this month's event and not getting a payday again, so that would have led to more comments against the WSOF. That's probably still coming, but now he's someone else's problem.
