By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief The scheduled UWC Bantamweight Championship bout for tomorrow night's Ultimate Warrior Challenge "Man O' War" event has undergone a change just a day from the show as Chase Beebe failed to show up for today's weigh-ins. The former WEC Champ apparently suffered a knee injury in his training camp which was inhibiting his ability to make the contracted weight of 135 lbs. for tomorrow's Championship bout.
In a press release sent out this evening, Ultimate Warrior Sports Development CEO Marcello Foran had this to say, "We are extremely disappointed that Chase failed to show up today to compete at MAN "O" WAR and equally frustrated by the way this entire situation has played out...We were aware that he was having troubling cutting weight earlier this week, but never received any official medical documentation about the severity or extent of an injury that would force him to pull out of the show which is required in his contract."
A Championship bout will take place and tomorrow's show will crown a UWC Bantamweight Champion, as the H.I.T. Squad's Justin Robbins will step into Beebe's slot to face Mike "The Hulk" Easton. Robbins is 13-6-1 and has appeared in both EliteXC and WEC.
Beebe failed to notify UWC about his decision to no-show, and in fact has had no communication any UWC official to this point. As he failed to uphold his end of the fight contract the UWC plans to hold him "legally accountable," and Virginia's Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, the event's sanctioning body, will look to impose sanctions against Beebe as well.
