By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief Douglas Lima will be unable to make his WEC debut against Justin Haskins as originally scheduled at WEC 39 as he awaits papers from the U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, according to a report by MMAJunkie.com. Stepping up on short notice as a replacement is another WEC newcomer, Mike Pierce. The fight was scheduled for the non-televised portion of the March 1st card from Corpus Christi, Texas. The event airs live on Versus and is headlined by Mike Brown's first Featherweight Title defense against Leonard Garcia.
Penick's Analysis: The bout is largely inconsequential for the WEC, considering they will no longer have a welterweight division in the organization, but it will still be an important one for both fighters to make a case for themselves getting a crack at the UFC. That's where these guys are at now in the WEC, they need to give Joe Silva and Dana White and the rest of the decision makers in Zuffa a reason to keep them around.
