By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief Brian Bowles is headed for a collision with WEC Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres in April, according to a report by MMAJunkie.com. Nothing has been signed to date, but both fighters have verbally agreed to face off in April at an event that MMAJunkie states will likely be in Chicago.
Bowles is 7-0 in his MMA career, with four victories in the WEC; none of his WEC fights has gone to a decision and he's got five submission victories under his belt. He's getting a deserved shot at one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world in Torres.
Torres will be making his third WEC Bantamweight Title defense with this bout after successful campaigns against Yoshiro Maeda and most recently Manny Tapia. He won the belt by defeating Chase Beebe in February of '08.
Penick's Analysis: This is the fight I wanted to see next for both of these guys following what they did at UFC 36, and this sets up a great title bout for the April show. Bowles is going to be a tough challenger for Torres, and on the other end for Bowles it will be his biggest test in his career. Either way it should be an explosive bantamweight bout between two very exciting fighters. The early part of 2009 is setting up nicely for the WEC.
