By Wade Keller, MMATorch supevising editor
On MSNBC's "Rachel Maddow Show," the guest host talked about harsh words by Sen. Chuck Hagel aimed at Rush Limbaugh. She then said: "Ultimate Fighting in the GOP. I wonder what Kimbo Slice thinks of Fred Thompson."

KELLER'S ANALYSIS: It's sad that Kimbo Slice would be the name that rolls off of people's tongues when referencing the sport. It shows that as successful as UFC has been and as much as UFC has penetrated the mainstream sports media in many ways in recent years, there isn't that singular UFC crossover star yet who compares to what Hulk Hogan was to pro wrestling or Michael Jordan was to the NBA. Part of that is because UFC has so many weight divisions and a relatively rapid turnover of the supposed top star (from Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock, and Dan Severn to Mark Coleman, Maurice Smith, and Tito Ortiz, to Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, and Matt Hughes, to now Anderson Silva, Brock Lesnar, and George St. Pierre (and you could argue a few others belong on the current top three list instead). Until UFC has that singular breakout star - and among the current roster it's Brock - there won't be that one name synonymous with the sport. In some ways that's not a bad thing.
