Today, RFA competitor Cory Galloway spoke to me about his MMA career, and his upcoming fight at RFA 17 later this month; here's the discussion:

Brad Walker: Alright, Cory, thanks for some time during your training camp, I know it's hard to find.

Cory Galloway: No problem man

Walker: So you're a bantamweight fighter for RFA, where you are now 2-0 looking to go 3-0, what's the biggest threat in your fight on August 22?

Galloway: I don't think about what is a threat to me in a fight. I just train my ass off every day and improve myself. The fight is just a chance for me to show off my skill set. My opponent can worry about shutting down my threats, but I'm gonna go in there and beat him up and put my hard work on display. The opponent never matters.

Walker: Speaking of shutting down your threats, in a column a while back I compared your ability to evolve during a fight to find a way to win to that of Anderson Silva - I think you showed this best against Damian Jeffro, Chris Haney, and Jeffrey Bates. How you adapt and win - is that something that comes natural to you?

Galloway: More than anything I think it's just a mental thing. Ya know, sometimes you'll see fights where something goes wrong for a fighter and he starts to shut down, and then things just get worse for him. I will never mentally break. I can be put in bad spots or have things not going my way but I'm able to stay in the fight and figure out how to better my situation. And in the examples you gave, that meant finishing my opponent in exciting fashion. You can't break me, and that makes me dangerous.

Walker: That's for sure. I can't count how many times I've seen moments where I thought "oh shit, Cory has to do something big" and before I finish my thought you've already nailed a submission; how does that boost your confidence?

Galloway: I always am and always have been 100% confident. So for me I expect nothing less than to finish the fight when I'm in those situations. My confidence doesn't need any boosting, I am already my own personal favorite fighter of all time.

Walker: And you're in my top fighters too! So I have to touch on something that bothers me here - in your last fight against Danny Aguirre, I felt that he went unconscious during your choke on the ground, and that the ref didn't spot it before you loosened up and he took a split decision win. Did I see correctly? And how do you feel about that fight as a whole?

Galloway: I don't think he ever went unconscious at any point, but I did have him in a couple of good chokes and a tight armbar at the end of the second that time ran out or the fight would've been finished. It was a really good fight. I think everyone in attendance was on their feet loving the action. That fight bothers me, though, because their were moments where I should have finished that fight but I didn't. It was a close split decision that didn't go my way, but it's whatever, I'm not here to win decisions, I'm here to finish people. I didn't get my job done there, and I'm coming back better. But I did NOT lose a fight on that night, I simply lost a decision.

Walker: That's a good way of saying it. You were basically dropped into the deep end in your debut with it having been in Bellator, what was that like?

Galloway: That was an awesome experience. I was actually the last fight on the card, after the main event, because of TV scheduling. So I ended up fighting right after my man Pat Curran decapitated Joe Warren. So I walked to the cage while they wheeled Warren past me on a stretcher. It was a fun time for sure. I enjoyed that experience a lot. I took the fight on short notice, and it was obviously a big jump from the local amateur MMA shows I had fought in up until that point. But I'm always ready for a fight. Anyone. Anywhere.

Walker: You come from Team Curran, where fighters like TUF's Felice Herrig, Bellator Champ Pat Curran, UFC and WEC vet Bart Palaszewski, and MMA legend Jeff Curran, plus so many more, call home - what's it like to basically train amongst the stars?

Galloway: It's awesome. Team Curran always has and always will be my home. I love it there. Jeff Curran is the best coach in this sport, he's seen and done it all. He has made me the fighter I am and all of my success goes to Jeff and all of Team Curran.

Walker: Alright last question; predict the outcome of your fight!

Galloway: I'm going to break him. Then I'm calling out every 135er on the planet and continuing to dismantle this division.

Walker: That my friend is the fighter's spirit! Thanks for your time Cory, hope to see you Saturday at Outdoor War, and good luck in your fight!

Galloway: Thanks my man, I will see you there! The Joey "The Real" Diehl will be wrecking shop!
