It was a night of title retention Saturday night. Not only did Georges St. Pierre retain his UFC welterweight title, but so did both of our contest champions. Prediction Champ Kubi laid waste to #1 contender Drew "Ace" Rothstein, besting him by two full picks 7-4 to 5-6 to successfully defend for the first time. It was more of the same on the betting side, as longtime champion Cambo "Rambo" Nelson turned back yet another challenger in Chris "The Walrus" Wallner in his closest defense yet. Both men hit on $300 worth of bets, but Nelson's decision to put a little coin on John Makdessi was the difference. Makdessi was an ever-so-slightly bigger underdog than Jim Miller (+120 to +115), resulting in the $10 margin in favor of Nelson. It was Rambo's sixth consecutive successful title defense. Amazing. Congrats to the champs!
In the pools, a couple of familiar names set themselves up to start the new year with a title shot. Rich "Blowtorch" Hansen was one of four entrants to go a contest-best 8-3 on his predictions, but it was in the tie-breakers where he separated himself from the competition. His six correct rounds/methods were double the next closest challenger. Congrats to Mr. Hansen!
In the betting pool, Hans "Baby Snorlax" Hoehn used $800 in bets on the two biggest underdogs to win to distance himself from the rest of the field and nearly triple his money. He'll move on to UFC 125 to try to unseat Cambo Nelson. If Baby Snorlax can't do it, who can?
Before we get to the full results, a few housekeeping items: starting with UFC 125, the first numbered event of 2011, Rich Hansen will be taking over the administrating of the MMATorch Contests. He'll be the new czar, so all questions and comments should be directed towards him. I've been doing these for almost three years, and I think its time I passed the reigns along to someone else. Hopefully this will free up time for me to have some more interesting features on the site. Thanks to everyone who's been around from the beginning (especially those who were playing WAY back in the day before it was me running this) and all the newcomers, relative and actual, who make this such a fun, interactive thing. I will still be compiling the year-long contest results to crown a year end Prediction and Betting Champion. We'll have to look into the prize closet and see what we can come up with for the winner. I'll keep everyone updated on that, but it might take me a week or two to get everything tabulated. Alright, results time...

Performer of the Night: Rich Hansen. A contest-best prediction mark and a top-5 finish in the betting pool while nearly doubling his money. No one else can boast that good of a resume from this card.
Goat of the Night: A three-way tie between Lane Bradford, Brent King, and Nick Center. All three had contest-worst 3-8 records on their predictions and lost all $1000 in the betting contest. Kinda hard to separate them.
