It was an ever so slightly disappointing effort from the fighters at UFC 99, but that doesn't mean the action wasn't fast and furious here at MMATorch for the Prediction and Betting Titles. Double champ Scott "The Fountain of Youth" Hart defended both his belts against MMATorch Editor Jamie "The Boss" Penick. It came down to a tie in both situations, and Hart was only able to retain one of his belts. In predictions, both men went 8-4, so we went to the tie-breakers. Hart has a decent four rounds/methods correctly, but that wouldn't stand up to Penick's very good seven. Congrats to the new MMATorch Prediction Champ....JAMIE PENICK!

On the betting side, it was a battle of futility the likes of which we've never seen. Neither Hart nor Penick managed to place a single successful bet, both losing all $1000. In the case of a tie, the belt stays with the champ. By the skin of his teeth, Hart manages to retain his betting title, and in the process earns the right to write a guest preview for UFC 100. I guess congrats is in order? Ok, maybe not.

In the prediction pool, we had our best collective effort in some time. Only one participant, newcomer Jason Alley, even managed a .500 record. Everyone else predicted more right than wrong, with six people tied for second at 9-3. They all fell short in the end though, AS YOUR'S TRULY FINALLY MANAGED TO CLAIM A #1 CONTENDERSHIP!!! That's right, Matt Pelkey is the first challenger to your newly claimed title, Penick. After a spectacular 10-2 performance, we will GET IT ON (in the Mills Lane sense, of course) at UFC 100!

There were more solid performances in the betting pool, with eight people posting a profit. There were also an unusual FIVE people to post the dubious goose egg, and no one was able to run away with the #1 contendership. Adam Fabbro, who is in danger of stealing Micky Wan's old nickname "The Savant", ended up besting us all. He'll take on by-the-skin-of-his-teeth defending champ Scott Hart at UFC 100. Results as follows:
