Bellator Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard was supposed to face off against Paulo Filho at last night's Bellator 18 event in Monroe, La. For Filho, perhaps it was for the best that he wasn't able to take the fight.
Lombard destroyed late replacement Jay Silva with a two punch combo that put the former UFC competitor out cold just six seconds into the fight.
Lombard has now moved his unbeaten streak to 19 fights.
"That’s the Hector Lombard I expected to see tonight,” Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney said afterward. “He is a tremendously talented middleweight who I believe is one of the best in the world and now American MMA fans are getting to see what some of us already know."
Lombard had just one simple thing to say, "That was beautiful."
Penick's Analysis: That was spectacular to see from Lombard, who came straight at Silva and connected on those punches in quick fashion. Lombard would be able to plug himself into the UFC's middleweight division and immediately contend with anyone the UFC has to offer. Hopefully that's something fans get to see at some point, as with no disrespect to the participants in this season's middleweight tournament none of them are going to be seen as much of a challenge for the Champion in season three. Video of the KO is now up, and you can see it below (App users video available at MMATorch.com):
