Spike has released further figures breaking down the numbers for Friday's Bellator 138 event.
Beyond the 2.1 million average who tuned in for the Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock main event in the final quarter hour, the broadcast's peak minute had 2.4 million viewers, while the three minute duration of the fight held 2.3 million viewers.
The broadcast also saw a steady viewership increase from fight to fight. 1.1 million on average viewed the Michael Chandler vs. Derek Campos opener, 1.3 million saw Daniel Straus defeat Henry Corrales, 1.8 million caught Bobby Lashley against Dan Charles, and, finally, 1.9 million tuned in for the Featherweight Championship fight between Patricio "Pitbull" Freire and Daniel Straus.
Penick's Analysis: They got a lot of people to tune in from the outset, and more and more followed throughout the broadcast. They had a very clear goal for this card with how it was put together, and they accomplished that goal. They're targeting a different kind of fan in many ways than the UFC has been targeting, and while it's not majorly appealing to some in the hardcore fanbase, Bellator's trying to bring back some who haven't continued watching over the last several years, and it's working.
