Bellator MMA will be running a "fan fest" next week in San Diego in advance of the Bellator 131 event in that city on Nov. 15.
The "event," such as it is, comes to the San Diego Dave and Buster's next Tuesday evening from 4PM-7PM PT, with a short media event preceding a fan meet and greet and autograph session.
Bellator officials announced on Tuesday that Tito Ortiz, Stephan Bonnar, Michael Chandler, King Mo, Royce Gracie, Randy Couture, Ken Shamrock, and Scott Coker are all expected to take part.
The "fan fest" serves as a lead in to the Nov. 15 event, which airs live on Spike TV with the Ortiz-Bonnar main event and Chandler-Brooks II co-main event.
Penick's Analysis: They really could have just promoted this as a meet and greet/autograph signing in the city, because trying to hype it as a "fan fest" makes it seem extremely thrown together and second tier. The UFC is running their next big fan week in July of next year, and it's going to be another huge "International Fight Week" in Las Vegas. By announcing this as a "fan fest," Bellator breeds comparisons that just aren't favorable to them in the least.
