A planned welterweight bout between Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos and Paul Daley is off of next month's Strikeforce "Fedor vs. Henderson" event, as "Cyborg" has suffered an injury according to multiple published reports.
The bout was expected to be featured on the main televised card on Showtime, and Daley will likely stay on the card against a replacement opponent with a month still left for the organization to find a replacement.
It's an unfortunate setback for Santos, who was hoping to rebound from a loss to Nick Diaz by submission in a Strikeforce Welterweight Championship bout in January.
Daley as well will be looking to bounce back from his own loss to Diaz, which came by TKO in April in an exciting back and forth one-round fight. The British welterweight will also be fighting for Zuffa for the first time since his release from the UFC following a sucker-punch of Josh Koscheck at UFC 113.
Strikeforce "Fedor vs. Henderson" takes place from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill., on July 30, headlined by a heavyweight bout between Dan Henderson and Fedor Emelianenko.
Penick's Analysis: That's bad news. This fight was a great one for both in Strikeforce's welterweight division, and it was a really good piece of what is turning out to be a really good Strikeforce card. With over a month until the event I think they shouldn't have too much trouble finding a replacement for Daley, and hopefully he'll be kept on the card in some capacity.
