Strikeforce's first event in Columbus drew an average of 412,000 viewers on Showtime, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.
The March 5 fight card, headlined by the Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Dan Henderson and Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante, drew 42% less viewers than February's kick off to the Heavyweight World Grand Prix with Fedor Emelianenko vs. Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva.
However, the card did equal the average viewership of last June's Fedor vs. Werdum event on Showtime.
It was the lowest rated major Strikeforce card of 2011, as Herschel Walker being on the January card helped boost it to the second highest ratings Strikeforce had garnered before the February 12 kick off to the Grand Prix broke the record. Strikeforce's next event airs live on Showtime on April 9 from San Diego.
Penick's Analysis: This isn't a horrible drop for this show, as there wasn't a ton of heat and excitement heading into the event, but it still got as much as the Fedor-Werdum show last summer. They were going to take a drop after the Grand Prix, and what will be interesting to see is how next month's show does off a lesser number and with no Grand Prix fights.
