Jorge Masvidal defeated the previously undefeated Billy Evangelista on Saturday night at Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson in Columbus, Ohio, and the 26-year-old may be jumping right back into action.
According to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker in a report at MMAJunkie.com, Masvidal may be tapped as the opponent for K.J. Noons at next month's Strikeforce debut in San Diego.
Masvidal said after the fight on Saturday that he was ready to get right back into action. He said that he wanted the toughest challenges possible in the organization, adding "If I can't fight for the title, then the next toughest guy out there I'd like to fight and kick his butt."
Noons would be returning after having a six fight winning streak snapped in a loss to Nick Diaz last October in the welterweight division.
The bout could come to the April 9 card, which is headlined by the Welterweight Title bout between Diaz and Paul Daley, but it has not yet been added to the card officially.
Penick's Analysis: Masvidal's bout with Evangelista wasn't a thrilling affair, but he used his superior striking to negate anything from Evangelista to earn the clear decision victory. A bout with Noons would make sense if he gets cleared from his current medical suspension quickly, but it's really short notice and doesn't give him much time to prepare for that bout. It's the problem with not having an opponent set for an event when the event is so close, it's not fair to either fighter at this point to not know for sure who they're fighting or if they're fighting when the change isn't caused by an injury.
