Strikeforce's first Wednesday event on Showtime comes live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, Cali. on June 16, and the organization officially announced the event today along with three of the fighters that will compete on the card.
Bobby Lashley, Robbie Lawler and K.J. Noons will all compete on the card, though opponents have not yet been named for any of them.
The event is being put together to coincide with the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which will feature a big presence from the upcoming EA Sports MMA game, in which Strikeforce is a featured promotion.
The game will hit shelves late in 2010, and will be in competition with the second iteration of the THQ UFC Undisputed game.
Lashley will make his second appearance in Strikeforce after defeating Wes Sims in January. The former WWE star is now 5-0 in his young MMA career.
Lawler also competed on the January Strikeforce: Miami event, coming back from being on the receiving end of a beating from Melvin Manhoef to knock him out in the first round.
Noons will be making his organizational debut after recently signing a contract with them. The former EliteXC Lightweight Champion returned to MMA last month after taking time off to pursue his boxing career. He defeated Andre Amade at DREAM 13.
Penick's Analysis: Lawler is expected to meet Jason "Mayhem" Miller, though there's no rumored opponent yet for either Noons or Lashley. Cris "Cyborg" Santos is also expected to fight on this card. Pre-sale tickets go on sale tomorrow for Strikeforce: Insider newsletter subscribers.
I hope the EA MMA game is better than the clips were showing during Strikeforce: Nashville, or it's not going to be very good. This is a smart move by Strikeforce and EA to try to get more interest in the game during the biggest video game convention of the year, and they're putting together a pretty good event here for that Wednesday.
