Strikeforce has been struggling to find an opponent for their new heavyweight acquisition Bobby Lashley for Strikeforce: Miami on January 30th. After his first scheduled opponent was not approved by the Florida State Boxing Commission, his second fell through as well.
With just over two weeks until the event, there may be an opponent in line. According to a Twitter post from Heavy.com's Jeremy Botter, a bout between Lashley and former UFC fighter and TUF 10 competitor Wes Sims is in the works for the event.
Sims was choked out cold by Justin Wren in The Ultimate Fighter house, but in professional competition he was on a three fight win streak heading into the house. He is perhaps most famous (in his head) for defeating Frank Mir in the UFC (if you don't let things like facts get in the way of a good story).
Lashley has defeated all four of his professional opponents, and will look to make it five straight if this fight comes to fruition for the 30th. Strikeforce: Miami airs live on Showtime, headlined by a Welterweight Title bout between Nick Diaz and Marius Zaromskis as well as a Women's 145 lb. Title bout between Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos and Marloes Coenen.
Penick's Analysis: This would be a good last second addition to the card. For Lashley's first Strikeforce opponent, Sims would present a slight challenge, being that he's a veteran who is not a complete can. It would also be a way for Lashley to introduce himself to the Showtime audience against a fighter who just received a ton of exposure on the most watched season of TUF. If they sign it and it gets approved Strikeforce has definitely salvaged what was looking like a lost cause for Lashley on the 30th.

"There's still a large contingent of people, that they just want to see these guys almost die, or the other guy almost die and come back, and sometimes fights are like that. Certainly they are. But sometimes you get technical masterpieces too, and to hate a beautiful, technical fight - you're not really a fight fan...
Diaz has a granite chin, possesses perhaps the best recovery in the sport, his pace and conditioning are second to none and he sets records with the volume of his punches almost every time he steps into the cage. "There was a lot of poison going on around there and I'm really disappointed because we had a good thing going. It was a good thing and I think people's egos got in the way. Well, not people just Javier, his ego got in the way, and too many cameras in the gym and him trying to build himself up and his brand, his AKA brand...
