Former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Cung Le will make his return to the organization for the first time in a year and a half, as Ariel Helwani at MMA FanHouse reports that he will fight on Strikeforce's December 19th event.
The bout will be his first fight for the organization since defeating Frank Shamrock for the Middleweight belt in March of 2008. Since then, Le has been busy making a career in film, with his most recent film Pandorum debuting in theaters last month.
No opponent is set for the event, though Scott Smith is a possibility. According to the story there are a couple other names that have been presented as well.
Penick's Analysis: Le vs. Smith would be an exciting addition to the December card, for sure. His film schedule must have opened up for him to get a sufficient training camp in time for this event. He did say when I spoke with him last month that he wanted to return when his schedule opened up, and that he relinquished his Title because he couldn't promise anything as far as his return was concerned, and he didn't want to hold up the division while guys like Shields and Miller were ready and able to compete for it. His return is good for Strikeforce, though he's not likely to fight often.

"There's still a large contingent of people, that they just want to see these guys almost die, or the other guy almost die and come back, and sometimes fights are like that. Certainly they are. But sometimes you get technical masterpieces too, and to hate a beautiful, technical fight - you're not really a fight fan...

"There was a lot of poison going on around there and I'm really disappointed because we had a good thing going. It was a good thing and I think people's egos got in the way. Well, not people just Javier, his ego got in the way, and too many cameras in the gym and him trying to build himself up and his brand, his AKA brand...
