A bout that was set to determine the next challenger to Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos' Strikeforce Women's 145 lb. Title is now off of the November 7th CBS card in Illinois.
According to a report from MMAWeekly.com, Erin Toughill has had to pull out of her scheduled bout with Marloes Coenen due to an undisclosed medical condition.
Coenen has now had two opponents drop out of a proposed fight on November 7th, as she was originally set to face the Champion before Santos came up with an injury suffered in a grappling tournament last month.
Toughill was then signed as a replacement to set up the #1 contender bout in a rematch between the two. Facing off in 2004, Toughill knocked Coenen out in that bout.
Strikeforce airs live on CBS on November 7th from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill. The show is headlined by the heavyweight showdown between Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers.
Penick's Analysis: This is an unfortunate loss to this card, as a strong women's bout would have been a great thing to showcase what should be Strikeforce's largest audience to date, by a large margin. Still, the bout wasn't a guarantee for the broadcast, so now it's simply a guaranteed absence. They've still got a very strong event for CBS, and hopefully we'll see that final strong push this weekend on CBS and throughout next week heading into the fights.
