Saturday's final Strikeforce event features a very solid light heavyweight fight between Gegard Mousasi and Mike Kyle, and after spending all of 2012 out of action, Mousasi is hoping for a much more productive 2013.
"I already have this fight in January, so if I could fight three more times, that will be great, but honestly, even if I fight two more times, that will work, too," Mousasi said in an interview with Steph Daniels at BloodyElbow.com. "I'm still gonna be happy that I fought three times in a year, but of course, four times would be even better."
"After this fight, if everything goes well, I don't mind fighting anybody. I'm not choosy. I know the fans have some fights they would like to see, or think would be fun fights, so hopefully, those are the fights that the UFC will put together for me."
Though he's been competing as a light heavyweight for the last several years, Mousasi's not opposed to dropping back down to the middleweight division, if one certain opponent were in the offering: Anderson Silva.
"That's a really big fight, so if I were offered a fight like that, I would go down in weight for it," Mousasi said. "I know there are a lot of other guys that are in line for him, so I'm just going to stay at 205 for now. If I'm not succeeding at 205, then I'll drop, but at this moment, I feel great at 205."
Penick's Analysis: I'll be honest, a fight between Mousasi and Silva would be highly intriguing. It wouldn't be a seller anytime soon, not until Mousasi has a win or two under his belt in the UFC, but that fight would be very interesting nonetheless. I'm excited to see Mousasi back on Saturday after a full year out, and even more excited for his eventual entrance into the UFC. He's got a ton of potential once he gets there, and is one of the bigger acquisitions for the UFC from the demise of Strikeforce.
