The next Strikeforce Women's Championship bout is headed to San Diego on August 18, according to a report from MMAFighting.com.
Per the report, Ronda Rousey will make the first defense of her Bantamweight Championship as expected against former division Champ Sarah Kaufman, with Strikeforce heading back to San Diego for the third time since being purchased by Zuffa, including the second time in a three month span.
Rousey captured the Strikeforce Bantamweight Championship in March, submitting Miesha Tate with a brutal armbar in Columbus. On that same card, Kaufman kept herself in line for the title shot with a decision win over Alexis Davis, her third straight win since losing the title to Marloes Coenen, who in turn was defeated by Tate.
Penick's Analysis: This fight should be another really good women's bout, pitting Rousey's seemingly unstoppable judo and submission game against Kaufman's striking and wrestling attack. Kaufman's going to have to find a way to avoid getting caught up with Rousey on the ground, while Rousey just needs to continue doing what she's been doing. It should be a great fight and it's going to be a good headliner for the August 18 show.
