Last Saturday's Strikeforce "Fedor vs. Henderson" event was capped off with a fantastic finishing sequence in the night's main event between Dan Henderson and Fedor Emelianenko, and the event as a whole came in as Strikeforce's fourth most-watched event on Showtime.
According to a report from MMAJunkie.com, the event drew a 1.7 rating and brought in an average viewership of 571,000 viewers.
The rating comes in just shy of the average viewership for the August 2009 event headlined by Gina Carano vs. Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos Women's Title bout, and is below only two other events on Showtime that Fedor has headlined. His February bout with Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva kicking off the Strikeforce Heavyweight World Grand Prix remains the most-watched Strikeforce event on Showtime, and Fedor's bout with Fabricio Werdum in June of last year is the second most watched event.
All three of Fedor's fights on Showtime then rank among the best marks Strikeforce has gotten on Showtime, and his CBS debut against Brett Rogers is still the most watched Strikeforce card ever.
Saturday's card also featured a Women's 135 lb. Title fight, where Miesha Tate pulled off a fourth round submission to upset Marloes Coenen to capture the belt, as well as Tim Kennedy defeating Robbie Lawler and welterweights Tyron Woodley and Tarec Saffiedine picking up wins over Paul Daley and Scott Smith, respectively.
Penick's Analysis: With Fedor on a two fight losing streak coming into this event and Henderson's previous two fights not drawing as many viewers as some of the surrounding events, this number comes in about as expected. Comparatively speaking it's clearly a good number, doing better than all but the heavily anticipated and historic Carano vs. Cyborg fight, Fedor's first ever fight on Showtime and the kick off of the heavyweight tournament. I still think we'll see Henderson come back to the UFC after this, but it depends upon what Zuffa's intentions are with Strikeforce as an organization, so it will be something to keep an eye on over the next couple of months.
