2/19 AFTERNOON UPDATE
If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what's on the site this afternoon:
-Dayne Fox's preliminary card preview for UFC Fight Night 61 is live, breaking down the fights scheduled prior to Sunday's main card. Excerpt on Jessica Andrade vs. Marion Reneau: “Funny thing is Reneau did a fair amount of countering against Alexis Dufresne, and though her angles weren't great, they were certainly good. Granted that Dufresne proved not to be at a UFC level of fighting, but Reneau looked much better than pundits thought she would. A volume striker who is more selective than Andrade, Reneau is going to look to circle her opponent and look for openings as she tries to take advantage of her six-inch reach advantage. Andrade owns good judo throws from the clinch too, giving Reneau further reason to keep her distance. Her ground game has been untested at a high level, but her pedigree is solid.” Head to our mobile site at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser for the full column.
-In Ronda Rousey news ahead of UFC 184, both she and Cat Zingano have passed random drug tests ahead of next week's event. Additionally, Rousey says she's essentially been fighting on one leg for her entire MMA career, but thinks that has now changed after the surgery she got last year. More on their negative tests with further analysis on Rousey's comments on the mobile site now.
-Two of the substances that Anderson Silva tested positive for at UFC 183 aren't actually banned substances under the WADA code. However, he didn't disclose their use prior to the fight, which is why they were added to the public complaint against him by the Nevada Attorney General. Further thoughts on the latest on Silva's situation on the mobile site.
-Phil Davis is without a UFC contract at the moment, as his loss to Ryan Bader came in the final bout of his current deal with the organization. More on those negotiations with additional commentary on the mobile site now.
-Robbie Lawler is planning to score a finish over Rory MacDonald in their rematch at UFC 189, saying he's focusing on his own game and expecting to defeat MacDonald even more decisively the second time around. Catch the UFC Welterweight Champ's comments on that bout with further analysis on the mobile site.
-In our morning poll, we asked readers for their predictions on Sunday's UFC Fight Night 61 co-main event between Michael Johnson and Edson Barboza. 49% think Barboza wins by TKO, with only 31% picking Johnson in any capacity.
We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. We're an independent voice in the MMA space with no corporate backing, and as such we stay afloat on ad revenue. This shift to the full listing on mobile web brings us a better chance to keep ourselves going and to bring our readers everything we have for the last five years and more, as the mobile advertising market is simply stronger than that on the app. Continue sending us your feedback to mmatorch@gmail.com and let us know how the new features with the Disqus comments section and more are working for you on mobile web!
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
