...OH, ONE MORE THING - PLEASE BOOKMARK US & VISIT DAILY!
WEDNESDAY 7/23 AFTERNOON UPDATE
If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Our tech team has been working on even more tweaks based on your feedback, and have optimized the site for Safari and the default Android browser. They're continuing to work on the same for both Chrome and Opera as well. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what's on the site this afternoon:
-Quite a bit of news with big names today, and we'll start with a new main event for UFC 178. Alexander Gustafsson has suffered a knee injury, taking him out of his rematch with Champ Jon Jones. Daniel Cormier is opting not to undergo a scheduled knee surgery, and will instead step up for that fight on Sept. 27. More on the situation in the main listing of our mobile site at MMATorch.com on your phone or tablet browser.
-Another title fight is set for later this year, as Vitor Belfort received a license from the Nevada Athletic Commission and will fight Chris Weidman at UFC 181 in Las Vegas on Dec. 6. Belfort received no discipline from the commission for a failed random drug test in February, administered while he was not licensed by the commission. More on the meeting and the new matchup in the main listing.
-Speaking of the farcical commission meeting on Wednesday, Chael Sonnen's disciplinary appearance was a bit of an embarrassment for the commission, featuring a couple of commissioners fawning over the now-disgraced former UFC Title challenger despite his immediate and repeated admissions of guilt. Ultimately, he received a two-year suspension – inconsequential given his June retirement – and no monetary fine. On top of that, the commission has asked that he consult with them regarding their future drug testing efforts. Further commentary on the issues from the meeting and Sonnen's punishment is now up on the mobile site.
-UFC Women's Champ Ronda Rousey will appear in a new documentary from espnW's Nine for IX label, premiering this Monday online. Check out a trailer in the main listing.
We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. We're an independent voice in the MMA space with no corporate backing, and as such we stay afloat on ad revenue. This shift to the full listing on mobile web brings us a better chance to keep ourselves going and to bring our readers everything we have for the last five years and more, as the mobile advertising market is simply stronger than that on the app. Continue sending us your feedback to mmatorch@gmail.com and let us know how the new features with the Disqus comments section and more are working for you on mobile web!
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
