THURSDAY 4/17 AFTERNOON NEWS UPDATE

-Afternoon round up time! If you want to catch all of our articles and features as they're posted, head to our new dedicated mobile-site at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser, as it's been specially designed for iPhones, iPads, Android phones, and Android tablets. Visit throughout the day for continuous updates!

-Saturday's UFC on Fox 11 main event will determine the next UFC Heavyweight Title challenger, and at the pre-fight press conference this afternoon, Dana White said the Travis Browne-Fabricio Werdum winner will meet Cain Velasquez in Mexico this fall provided Velasquez is healthy. More on that in the full story at MMATorch.com!

-Jake Shields has found a new fighting home after a premature UFC release this past month. It was revealed this afternoon that he's on his way to the World Series of Fighting, joining what is probably the most competitive welterweight field outside of the UFC. Further commentary with a statement from Shields as well in the main listing.

-Speaking of the welterweight division, Rich Hansen's “Transparency in MMA Rankings” series continues with his top 15 170 lb. fighters today. I'm fairly in line with his list myself, though I'm slightly intrigued by Brandon Thatch getting a spot in the top 15. He's promising, for sure, but Rich admits it's an “eyeball test” placement. Excerpt: “3.) Tyron Woodley: He beat up Carlos Condit. That's all I need to know. He's also improving every time out, and has gotten much better at the intricacies of the game. He's able to transition from one phase to another so much better than he did when he first started.”

-For those wondering why the Chael Sonnen-Wanderlei Silva bout keeps getting delayed, Dana White said Wednesday night after “The Ultimate Fighter: Nations” Finale that Silva hurt himself in that brawl with Sonnen on the set of TUF and hasn't healed up completely yet. Honestly, I'm not sure the fight's happening at this point, but it's on the schedule for July 5. More of White's comments with analysis in the main listing in your mobile web browser at MMATorch.com!

-Heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga has a lengthier layoff ahead of him, as he'll have to get a second surgery on his broken hand to remove some screws and a plate that was placed in after his January loss to Stipe Miocic. He's expecting to be out six months. Further thoughts in the main listing.

We want to again thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we work through the brand new mobile site launch! We're an independent voice in the MMA space with no corporate backing, and as such we stay afloat on ad revenue. This shift to the full listing on mobile web brings us a better chance to keep ourselves going and to bring our readers everything we have for the last five years and more, as the mobile advertising market is simply stronger than that on the app. Continue sending us your feedback to mmatorch@gmail.com and let us know how the new features with the Disqus comments section and more are working for you on mobile web!
