Am I the only MMA fan who dreams of playing matchmaker? In this feature I will discuss "Fantasy Fights" that I either hope to see one day, or ones that we can only fantasize about. Today I will discuss what would be perhaps the biggest fight in MMA history if it were to ever take place. It is a dream match up that every MMA fan would love to see, and for that matter it is the type of fight that with the proper hype - and we know it would receive all that and more - would draw the interest of non-MMA fans as well. It is the heavyweight showdown between Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brock Lesnar.

You have, on the one hand, arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the world, an MMA legend in Fedor. On the other hand, if healthy, you have one of the most physically intimidating, intriguing, and scary fighters to ever compete in MMA in Brock Lesnar. This fight would have the potential to be a mega fight never before seen in MMA history.

Fedor has proven he can beat guys bigger, stronger, and more athletic than him. But would he would be able to deal with an improving Lesnar who is all of those things at once? I think the recent fight with Brett Rogers demonstrated that Fedor can be beaten up at times, especially by someone so much larger and physically superior to him. On the other hand, I think Fedor's best shot at beating Lesnar would be if he can test the chin of Lesnar.

Many would argue that Fedor's BJJ is his greatest advantage over Brock, but I believe that he has proven the ability to hang tough and land a ferocious shot (see his last two fights vs. Arlovski and Rogers), even if he is being outfought. The real question then becomes can Lesnar withstand the big shot from Fedor and does Fedor have the power to knock out Lesnar?

We all saw Lesnar get tapped out by Mir early in his UFC career, but we have not seen him take a real nasty shot yet. When Mir hit him with the flying knee at the beginning of round 2 at UFC 100, Lesnar wobbled for just one second and then did what any good wrestler should do in that situation - he took Mir down to give himself time to recover.

So, can Fedor knock out Lesnar? Is Lesnar too big, strong, and quick for Fedor? These are some of the questions we can all only hope to get answered if this fantasy fight were to happen.

Will this fight ever happen? There are so many obstacles preventing this fight from ever happening, that despite its amazing appeal and likely unprecedented success I think it is highly unlikely from ever materializing at this point.

Firstly, you have Lesnar's current health situation and future as a fighter to be settled. Beyond that both of these fighters are locked into their current contract and the UFC recently put the full court press on to sign Fedor and it did not work out. Will this latest attempt work out any differently?

This mega-fight would be a financial winner for everyone involved but, unless the UFC or Fedor is willing to bend on their contractual stances, it is highly unlikely that we will see this fight materialize, especially if Strikeforce can continue to provide Fedor with quality heavyweights to compete against. Until then we can only fantasize and speculate about what would happen if these two elite fighters met in the cage, octagon, ring or street!

My Fantasy Prediction: Lesnar by TKO in the first round. Lesnar takes Fedor down, keeps him there and eventually, ground and pounds him until the referee steps in. Lesnar's size, strength, and athleticism prove too much for even the great Fedor.
