Where do you rank the Aldo-Mendes fight among the UFC title fights from 2014? Which title fight do you think has been best this year and why?
DAN MOORE, MMATORCH UK COLUMNIST
It's certainly up there in terms of the most entertaining fights this year. There are a few I've really enjoyed like Matt Brown vs. Erick Silva (UFC Fight Night 40), Johnny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler (UFC 171), and Abel Trujillo vs. Jamie Varner (UFC 169). All three were excellent competitive fights. I can't wait to see the rematch between Hendricks and Lawler. I've probably missed one or two, but with so many events in 2014, I can barely remember what happened at UFC 179.
Two personal favourites of mine are Conor McGregor vs. Diego Brandao (UFC Fight Night 46) and Renan Barao vs. T.J. Dillashaw (UFC 173). The former lasted seconds and was very one-sided, but the atmosphere was the craziest I've ever seen and it was amazing to witness in person. The latter was such a shock to the fans in attendance in Las Vegas (including myself). Most of us were totally dumbfounded witnessing Dillashaw dismantle the previous indestructible Barao. It is also my favourite individual performance of 2014 so far.

It was a very good fight, but it doesn't make the top five for me. Ronda Rousey's 2 victories this year against Sara McMann (UFC 170) and Alexis Davis (UFC 175), Renan Barao defending against Urijah Faber at UFC 169, Johny Hendricks capturing the vacant title against Robbie Lawler at UFC 171, Jon Jones defending against Glover Teixiera at UFC 172, and Demetrious Johnson defending against Chris Cariaso were all better, in my eyes. The best title fight of the year was T.J. Dillashaw upsetting Renan Barao at UFC 173. Barao hadn't lost in 9 years, but he got dominated by Dillashaw. That was such an impressive performance by Dillashaw.

It's always hard to grade a fight when it's so fresh in your memory. Aldo vs Mendes II was certainly up there with some of the best I've seen in 2014 for pure entertainment. It was a brutal back and forth battle, that kept me on the very edge of my seat.
Matt Brown vs Robbie Lawler, Matt Brown vs. Erick Silva, Robbie Lawler vs. Johny Hendricks, Scott Jorgensen vs Danny Martinez, are all up there in my opinion as the best so far in 2014. That's not including T.J.Dillashaw vs Renan Barao. Hold on, hold on..... What about Sean Spencer vs. Alex Garcia at UFC 171. I'm sure I've forgotten a couple, but these fights are all worth a second look or third watch.
One of my personal favourites is probably the debut of Irishman Cathal Pendred, making his UFC debut in Dublin vs Mike King. The mixture of being live at the event, the moment Pendred looked like he was about to lose, the stunning comeback, and the Irish crowd, it'll take some beating.
