Who wins the Glover Teixeira-Phil Davis fight at UFC 179 on Saturday night, and how?

I expect this to be a close fight, and if I had to pick a main card underdog this week, I'm more inclined to pick Davis over Chad Mendes. I don't particularly rate Davis, but his style is grinding and often effective. That being said, I still think Teixeira wins. His stand-up game is excellent and much better than Davis. And if he can utilise his clinch game effectively, without succumbing to too many takedowns, he should win. If anyone is going to earn a stoppage win, it's Teixiera, but the smart money is on him winning by decision.

I guess I'll pick Teixeira in this fight. Phil Davis far too often comes up short in big fights, so I can't pick him. I think Teixeira wins a lackluster decision. Neither guy has been all that impressive, but I think Glover will prevail here.

Glover is going to take apart Phil Davis and drop him out of the top rankings once and for all. The holes in Davis' game exposed by Rumble Johnson will be exploited on a whole new level, and I believe we will see him get knocked out.

I think Glover will win this fight. Phil Davis is a great fighter and probably has the bigger gas tank, but that power in the hands of Glover is unmatched in the division and I think he will tag Davis a few times, and eventually finish him.

Both are coming off losses where they were totally dominated by their respective opponents. Phil Davis was handed only his second defeat at the hands of Anthony Johnson at UFC 172 in a three round lopsided drumming, while Glover headlined UFC 172 against Jon Jones, fairing no better. Indeed, it was five rounds of being dominated by the champion, not ever looking like he was causing any problems.

At their best, both fighters are very dangerous, so I'm interested to see how they bounce back on Saturday night. I have to give the edge to Glover, though I fancy Phil Davis to come away with the win. If he can keep Glover at range, use his legs kicks, jab, and stay away from the power punches that are likely to come his way, he can win this fight.

If Glover can get in close, the blue print has been laid out by Anthony Johnson on how to defeat Davis, though putting this game plan into action against someone like Davis won't be easy!
