What's your reaction to the Ronda Rousey vs. Alexis Davis booking for UFC 175? Do you like the matchup? Is it a disappointment given some of the other options discussed or does the fight make sense?

DAN MOORE, MMATORCH UK COLUMNIST

It's a sensible fight to make in the current circumstances even if it is uninspiring. Gina Carano, Cris 'Cyborg’ Santos and Holly Holm are all options for the future but none of them were ready to go as early as UFC 175. Carano hasn't fought in donkey's years and would struggle to make weight. Cyborg would struggle to make weight and isn't even signed to the UFC. Holm is another not signed to the UFC, and, would probably be better served taking one or two extra MMA fights before she does.

That left us with Cat Zingano and Alexis Davis. The former is nowhere being ready to fight again and after such an extended lay-off, Zingano would be better off taking a tune-up fight first. That left the UFC with Alexis Davis, and rightly or wrongly, they went for it. When you have a champion as dominant as Ronda Rousey, finding a constant flow of credible contenders isn’t easy. Davis has the best record of those left in the contender pot, and at this moment in time, she is the most deserving.

KALE HAVERVOLD, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR

I'm totally okay with it. Anyone who thought Cyborg, Holm, or Carano was going to get that shot was delusional. None of those fights seemed possible in my eyes, perhaps in the future. Once Cat Zingano is ready to go I would love to see her get her shot.

FRANK HYDEN, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR

Well, I'm not disappointed because I didn't expect those other fights to happen. Gina Carano isn't going to come in off the proverbial street and get a title shot, certainly not against a fighter the caliber of Ronda Rousey. Cris Cyborg won't likely be brought in anytime soon so I didn't think that would happen, and the UFC is playing hardball with Holly Holm. I'm good with Davis getting the title shot. I think the fight makes sense, but Rousey is so far above everyone else that it's hard to accurately judge who should get the title shots. I think it's a good fight. Anytime Rousey fights I want to watch.

BRAD WALKER, MMATORCH COLUMNIST

Well my first thought is that the buyrate is going to be abysmal, as few care to see this fight. Davis has good hands and that's about it. She hasn't shown anything proverbially elite and is going to get completely ruined in this fight as a massive underdog. Rousey is earning points for another quick turn around, but aside from that, this ought to be an easy win, nothing is impressive. Rousey wins round one armbar and it makes no difference. Who is booking these slop fights?

TOM STRONG, MMATORCH UK CONTRIBUTOR

Oh what a surprise move by the UFC, I'm not going to lie, but this is a fight that smacks of desperation, a fight that was the only viable option left for the UFC. With all the hype of a "huge announcement" tweeted by Joe Rogan, and the possibility of a return for Gina Carano, this for me is a major let down. I really should be used to it by now.
I'm sure this wasn't the preferred option for the UFC, maybe we will see a "big announcement" after this fight, but at the moment this is the only fight available.

Alexis Davis who in my eyes didn't even beat Jessica Eye, and has little to no chance against something like Ronda.

This fight lasts about one minute before the inevitable happens.

CASH NORMAN, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR

My reaction to the announcement of the booking between Rousey and Davis at UFC 175 is that it makes sense. First, the UFC always has a big card in Las Vegas during the 4th of July weekend and all the other champions in the organization are either hurt or booked for another contest. Also if you look at the card, which is headlined by Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida, Rousey is the only one who can actively go out and self promote the event. Although Weidman is very talented and handsome champion, his personality is about as exciting as a plain bowl of vanilla ice cream. Lyoto Machida has always been a very polite, respectful, and humble martial artist and I do not anticipate this changing for this particular bout. While I am a fan of Alexis Davis she has a very drab wet paper towel personality as well.

Secondly, there was momentum for Alexis Davis to possibly challenge for the women's bantamwieght belt prior to Rousey defeating Liz Carmouche. However, after Davis turned in a lackluster debut performance against Rosi Sexton, the push for that matchup petered out. During discussions of possible opponents for Rousey, Davis' name has always been mentioned, even prior to the absolute absurdity which has ensued with the allusion Gina Carano will make a comeback to MMA, and talks breaking down between Holly Holm and the UFC.

Finally, Alexis Davis has won all three of her fights within the UFC. While she has not won any of them in overly impressive fashion, she is a legitimate contender within the division. Some hardcore fans are complaining Cat Zingano is being overlooked, but I think they are giving Zingano time to recover and regain her bearings before thrusting her into a championship fight. Also, if Cat Zingano can successfully return from injury and a personal tragedy to win her next bout, it creates a great story line for a possible matchup in the near future.
