Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem appeared for the first time together on Friday to promote their heavyweight clash this December at UFC 141. In front of a raucous crowd, Overeem and Lesnar both fired off a few little verbal jabs at one another before squaring off for a photo op for the first time. Check out some quotes from the press conference, as well as a picture of their face-off below:
Brock Lesnar:
On diverticulitis surgery - "[It took] about six hours [after surgery to feel better]... I was just looking to feel better. I avoided the surgery for as long as I could. I made the decision; when you've got to go under the knife and have part of your intestines removed is a big deal. hindsight being 20/20 - I'm back and I feel good.
On Overeem - "Alistair's done a lot of good things overseas. He's had a lot of fights. It's an honor for me to get in the Octagon to kick his ass."
On his weight - "I'm weighing about 278 [lbs.]. Sorry for the disappointment
On a rematch with Cain Velasquez - "If I fought Cain - let's rephrase that - when I fight Cain again. When I cross that river and get to that fight again we'll do things different. I'll slow the fight down, won't run and gun it right away like I did the first time."
Alistair Overeem:
On UFC opportunity - "I'm very happy, I'm very proud to join the UFC family, and I'm ready to get it on."
On taking this fight over a title shot - "UFC offered me a title shot right away, but I like to stay active. If I would have taken the shot I would have been out for 4-6 months."
On his experience edge - "I have ten times the experience. I'm gonna tear this guy apart, piece by piece."
On preparing for Lesnar - "What Brock does is pretty straightforward. I'm going to be prepared."
