UFC Fight Night 60 hits Fox Sports 1 tonight, the first of several cards ravaged by injury as of late. In the main event, Benson Henderson gives up five inches and a what seems like a significant difference in power to Brandon Thatch. Here are some quick thoughts on tonight's main card bouts:
Benson Henderson vs. Brandon Thatch (Welterweight): The concern I have for Henderson here is the late notice and the serious size difference between the two of them. Henderson's a really good-sized lightweight, but he's small compared to a really big welterweight like Thatch. Add in the pure unadulterated violence brought by Thatch, and this is scary for the former UFC Lightweight Champion. Nothing but respect to him for taking this fight, it just doesn't seem like a fight he's going to win right now. Thatch by TKO in the first round.
Max Holloway vs. Cole Miller (Featherweight): Miller is a very solid veteran, but Holloway's done extremely well against all but the very best fighters he's faced in the UFC. I think Miller's savvy enough to make this a very competitive fight, but I think Holloway's shown a lot of promise in his current streak, and he'll notch another win here. Holloway by decision.
Neil Magny vs. Kiichi Kunimoto (Welterweight): Magny won five fights in a row in 2014, and he's going to try to make it six in a row against Kunimoto, who has three UFC wins in a row despite not looking all that great in any of them. Magny's the better fighter of the two, and though he occasionally fails to perform at his best, he should pull this one off. Magny by decision.
Dan Kelly vs. Patrick Walsh (191 lb. Catchweight): Walsh missed weight by five pounds, and he's not all that good. Kelly looked damn good in his UFC debut, and the Australian Olympic judoka is likely to have another showcase fight here. Kelly via submission in the first round.
Kevin Lee vs. Michel Prazeres (Lightweight): This one should be competitive. Lee has shown some promise, but the 22-year-old is still looking to improve his overall game significantly as he continues his UFC run. Prazeres is a talented veteran whose only loss came in a short notice UFC debut at welterweight against Paulo Thiago. It's a tough fight for both here, and may come down to who can squeak out two of three rounds. Coin flip, Lee by decision.
Ray Borg vs. Chris Kelades (Flyweight): Borg lost to a very good fighter in Dustin Ortiz in his UFC debut, but he looked really good in the fight himself on short notice in his UFC debut. He looked even better with a full camp against Shane Howell in June. Kelades had a solid win over Patrick Holohan in his UFC debut, but I think the 21-year-old Borg has the brighter future in the Octagon here. Borg by submission in the second round.
