In a new regular feature here, I'll be taking a look at the results of our fan polls and reacting to what MMATorch readers think of different topics in MMA news.
In one of our most recent polls here at MMATorch, we asked our readers about two of the UFC's proposed super fights and which one was more likely to happen. The two options, of course, were Anderson Silva against Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva against Jon Jones. There was also an option for both fights happening, as well as neither fight happening, and the results from our readers were somewhat surprising.
For starters, everyone's awfully optimistic that we'll be seeing at least one of those major super fights happening. Only 19% of those casting a vote believe that neither fight will happen, with another 19% thinking the UFC will find a way to get both fights together.
Of the other 62% of responders, most think it's more likely that we'll see Silva fight St-Pierre than Jones, and that makes sense. It's the fight that has been talked about for months, and is seemingly only awaiting a win by St-Pierre at UFC 154 to get that fight set up. A fight with Jones wouldn't come until after that fight, and would be dependent on what happens in the light heavyweight division as well. There isn't a clear, easy path to that fight just yet, but 25% of you still think it's the more likely fight to happen.
Personally, I'm in the camp that wants to see both fights, but I don't know how optimistic I am that they get put together. If I had to pick one that's more likely than the other it's easily Silva vs. GSP, and I think it's a fight that realistically could happen early next year. The UFC wants it to happen, Silva wants it to happen, it's just about St-Pierre defeating Carlos Condit and being convinced to take the fight. That's not an easy task, of course, but it's a lot more likely than getting the timing down for Silva-Jones, then convincing them both to take the fight.
