Bellator 141 hit Spike this past weekend; I've got a rundown for that along with some UFC 193 talk, so let's get right to it.

Bellator 141

BAD/GOOD: Marloes Coenen submits Arlene Blencowe

The fight largely sucked. Coenen was just the superior fighter, but she didn't do much with any advantages she had. The submission was nice, but everything else was unimpressive on her end. Blencowe had some success on the feet, but couldn't turn it into the victory. It's hard to say where Coenen goes from here, but hopefully Bellator has some more fights lined up for her.

UGLY: Justin Wren vs. Josh Burns

This fight completely sucked. There wasn't one redeeming thing about this borefest. It was heavyweight fighting at its worst, two overweight guys gassing out quickly. Wren has a good story and seems like a great guy, but that doesn't make this pitiful excuse of a fight any easier to watch. It looked like they were fighting underwater, they were moving so slow. Wren won the dominating decision.

UGLY: Patricky Freire vs. Saad Awad

Another crappy fight, and this was made worse by all the talking in the lead-up to this fight. They were acting as if they were going to go to war, and they ended up playing pattycake for three rounds. And to make things worse, there was less action in this fight than in the heavyweight fight before it. That should never happen, and both guys should be ashamed of themselves. Just a garbage fight.

UGLY: Melvin Guillard vs. Brandon Girtz

What a fitting way to cap off one of the worst cards in MMA history with this crap fight. Girtz took Guillard down and laid on him, occasionally trying for a submission, as he blanketed his way to the decision win. It sounds like hyperbole to say this is one of the worst card in MMA history, but I'm blanking on many main cards that were worse. The best fight was still a bad one, and it only had one redeeming thing about it, and that was the nasty submission from Marloes Coenen. The rest of that fight sucked, and each successive fight got worse and worse.

The lowlight was the absolute inaction between Patricky Freire and Saad Awad. Freire has the nickname "Pitbull," but I'll never call him that. Well, unless I block his fight from my memory and forget. You can't have a nickname like "Pitbull" and do that. He did nothing in his fight, absolutely nothing.

After that, Girtz lays on Guillard for the entirety of their fight. At least Justin Wren and Josh Burns tried. Not very well, but at least they tried. If you made a list of the Top 10 Worst Fights of the Year, the last three fights would all be contenders for that list. This was the most pathetic fight card I can ever remember seeing. If I'm forgetting some other card that was as bad or worse, let me know because I honestly can't think of any right now.

*************

UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler has had to pull out of UFC 193 with an injury; he was scheduled to defend his title against Carlos Condit. UFC 193 is a stadium show in Australia so this was a pretty big deal. However, the UFC brought out a big gun to counter the setback: Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm is the new main event of UFC 193 for the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship. That's huge, for obvious reasons. It does blow up the plans for UFC Women's Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk to defend her title in the co-main event under Rousey-Holm to get more eyeballs on her, but the UFC did what they had to.

There was some talk of Jedrzejczyk not defending her title against Claudia Gadelha, but I guess that will be addressed later. Nothing against anyone else in that division, but I want to see Joanna Champion vs. Gadelha. That's the fight to make in that division and anything else is a distant second.

Back to UFC 193, though; this event will likely break the UFC's all-time attendance record, which is currently held by UFC 129 and was attended by over 55,000 people. Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, which is were the event will be held, can seat 56,000 people normally for Australian football and rugby, and the UFC should be able to squeeze more into the stadium given the cage configuration and the smaller space it requires. It's hard to say exactly how many people they can get in there, but I'm sure they'll break the record, especially given Rousey will be fighting in the main event. The UFC should try to put as many good fights on the card as possible for the fans there, but Rousey's presence alone will draw big numbers. It should be quite the sight to see this event in that stadium.
