Both Bellator 128 and World Series of Fighting 14 took place last weekend. Here's my rundown of the shows.
Bellator 128
GOOD: Emiliano Sordi submits Bubba McDaniel
This took just under a minute. Sordi is just better on the ground.
GOOD: Alexander Sarnavskiy submits Dakota Cochrane
This only took about two and a half minutes. Sarnavskiy was all over Cochrane from the start, and hammered him with all sorts of strikes before getting the submission. Nice win for Sarnavskiy.
UGLY: Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Michael Page
This fight was unbelievably boring. Page won the decision, but the fight was so bad no one will care. This was just so horrible.
BAD/UGLY: Joe Warren vs. Eduardo Dantas
Warren was the Interim Bellator Bantamweight Champ and Dantas was the official Champ, with this fight set to unify those belts. There was some bad blood leading up to this fight, as Warren said some very meathead things about Dantas ducking him, which was garbage. That made me think that maybe this fight would be good, but it sucked. It was really dull and just a grind to watch. Warren won the decision to become the unified Bellator Bantamweight Champion. There's no question that Warren has talent, but I can't bring myself to want to watch him fight at all.
World Series of Fighting 14
GOOD: Jared Hamman stops Luke Harris
Hamman jumped on Harris early and poured it on to force the stoppage. It's a good win for him.
UGLY: Chris Horodecki vs. Luis Huete
This fight sucked. Horodecki won the decision, for what that means. I don't know what was worse, the fight or the commentary. It's almost enough to make you miss Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan, but then they start talking and you just want to mute the TV.
GOOD: Smealinho Rama stops Derrick Mehman
Rama won with some caveman clubbing. He showed some good power in beating Mehman in just under a minute.
GOOD: Jake Shields submits Ryan Ford
This was a total mismatch, but it gave Shields a chance to show what he can do. Shields baited Ford into basically doing what he wanted, and that lead to the submission win. Shields will now face the winner of the fight between World Series of Fighting Welterweight Champion Roshimar Palhares and Jon Fitch at WSOF 15. That's certainly an interesting fight on paper. I'm not sure if it'll be fun to watch or not, but here's hoping.
