The WEC is coming to an end with their December 16 WEC 53 event on Versus, and a new lightweight bout has been booked for the event.
According to a report from MMAJunkie.com, Kamal Shalorus and Bart Palaszewski will meet on the night's main card.
Palaszewski has been on a roll since losing two straight in the WEC in 2009. He's won four straight fights, three of them in the WEC. That stretch includes three stoppage victories and a split decision over current #1 contender Anthony Pettis.
Shalorus is coming off a split draw with Jamie Varner in June. The British-Iranian is undefeated in his career, but the Varner fight was controversial, as he landed multiple low blows, had a point taken away and many felt he had lost at least two rounds in the fight. But the resulting draw kept his record unblemished, and he'll look to enter the UFC with a win.
WEC 53 takes place from the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Ariz. and airs live on Versus. The event is headlined by two WEC Title bouts, as Benson Henderson faces Anthony Pettis to earn a Lightweight Championship bout against the winner of Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard from UFC 125 and Dominick Cruz defends his WEC Bantamweight Championship against Scott Jorgensen.
Penick's Analysis: This is a great lightweight fight, and the winner will insert themselves into the UFC lightweight field off of a relevant win. This should also be a highly exciting fight for the final WEC card on Versus, and it's a very good addition to this card. A lot of people will be looking forward to this card, with it being the final WEC event, and they're definitely going out with one of their better cards. This will be a good way to go out.
