Jose Aldo's second Featherweight Title defense is set, as the WEC today officially announced the WEC 51 event.
Airing live from the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colo., on September 30, the Versus event will feature Aldo's bout with Manvel Gamburyan in the night's main event, while the organization also announced a lightweight rematch between Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone as the night's co-main event.
Three more fights were announced in today's release as well, as Miguel Torres will face Charlie Valencia, Leonard Garcia will battle Mark Hominick and Chan Sung Jung will meet George Roop.
"From top to bottom, this card is stacked with Fight-of-the-Year-caliber matchups," WEC General Manager Reed Harris stated in today's announcement. "In addition to having a title fight, a grudge match and a bantamweight war, this card features warriors like Garcia, Hominick and 'The Korean Zombie.' These guys have all been in some of the most memorable fights in WEC history. Now, they have a chance to put on epic fights in front of the great Colorado fans."
Tickets for the event go on sale this Saturday, July 31.
Penick's Analysis: This is one of the better cards the WEC has put together for Versus. From the Title fight to the heated rematch, down to a possible redemption for Torres and a very likely fight of the night between Hominick and Garcia, this is a stacked event and will be an extremely fun night of fights. It's an interesting event as well in the sense that the WEC will be running on a Thursday night, which will put them head to head with Bellator at the end of the month. Still, with WEC 50 next month and this card, there's nothing but a ton of action to look forward to in the WEC over the next couple of months.

"There's still a large contingent of people, that they just want to see these guys almost die, or the other guy almost die and come back, and sometimes fights are like that. Certainly they are. But sometimes you get technical masterpieces too, and to hate a beautiful, technical fight - you're not really a fight fan...

"There was a lot of poison going on around there and I'm really disappointed because we had a good thing going. It was a good thing and I think people's egos got in the way. Well, not people just Javier, his ego got in the way, and too many cameras in the gym and him trying to build himself up and his brand, his AKA brand...
