Fresh off one of the most exciting fight cards of 2010, the WEC is setting their August event, WEC 50, to be even better, and according to a report from MMAWeekly.com, another high profile bantamweight fight is coming to the card.
Scott Jorgensen and Brad Pickett will be facing off on the card, per the report, and the bout could determine the next challenger to the Bantamweight Championship.
Jorgensen is riding a four fight win streak in the organization, most recently avenging a loss to Antonio Banuelos with a thrilling decision victory over him at WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber. Since the loss to Banuelos in 2009, Jorgensen added victories over Noah Thomas, Takeya Mizugaki and Chad George.
Brad "One Punch" Pickett has won two straight fights in the WEC, submitting Kyle Dietz and then earning a decision over Demetrious Johnson at the "Faber vs. Aldo" pay-per-view event.
WEC 50 is expected to take place from The Pearl at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 18, headlined by a Bantamweight Championship bout between Dominick Cruz and Joseph Benavidez.
Penick's Analysis: This is an excellent bantamweight bout and the winner is absolutely deserving of a title shot in the division. Jorgensen is always exciting to watch, and Pickett is coming off one of the best fights on the WEC pay-per-view in April against Johnson. This will make for an extremely exciting match up, and will help set up another major Bantamweight Championship fight after the Cruz-Benavidez rematch. This WEC 50 card is shaping up to be a "can't miss" event.
