Following a second failed attempt to regain his WEC Featherweight Championship this April, "The California Kid" Urijah Faber will be making a long talked about drop to the bantamweight division this August when he meets former Bantamweight Title challenger Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 50, according to a report from MMAWeekly.com.
Faber lost a one-sided decision to Jose Aldo in the main event of the WEC's first and only pay-per-view event on April 24, and this will now be the first time in his WEC career he's fought at anything other than featherweight.
Mizugaki rebounded from a December loss to Scott Jorgensen on the April 24 card, defeating Rani Yahya by decision. He's 2-2 in the WEC, including his fight of the year candidate loss to Miguel Torres in April of 2009.
The August 18 card has not yet been announced by the organization, but it is expected to emanate from Las Vegas.
Penick's Analysis: This is an excellent fight for Faber in his WEC bantamweight debut. The super fight that many would like to see is between him and Miguel Torres, but as Torres said recently that's a fight that should be built to with both coming off of high profile losses. If Faber can defeat Mizugaki and if Torres can win his next fight, that would be a great fight to set up next between the two. This is a great fight to set up this August card.
