The UFC 189 prelims didn't exactly start with a bang, but Matt Brown and Tim Means made sure they ended with one.
In what turned out to be a signature performance by Brown, he and Means slugged it out for the better part of one round. Means got the better of the striking exchange, but Brown put an end to the action when he caught Means coming in, stunning him, and locked in a fight-ending guillotine.
In other action, Alex Garcia shut down the offense of Mike Swick for three rounds en route to a unanimous decision, John Howard stifled the streaking Cathal Pendred and handed him his first UFC loss via split decision when one judge lost his mind and scored the fight for Pendred, and Cody Garbrandt proved to be the better of the two prospects in the opening bout of the evening, providing the majority of the offense over the course of three rounds and getting the unanimous nod.
