"I definitely didn't want to sit out [and wait for a shot at Dominick Cruz]. This is what I love to do, I love to fight, and it's also what I do for a living. I don't think sitting out that long would do anybody any good. I'm excited about fighting him in the future, but I've just got to get this win out of the way first and Eddie's a tough dude... I think what we're seeing with Eddie is he's just enjoying fighting more right now. You need to enjoy it, you really need to enjoy what you're doing to do it to your best ability, and you're looking at two guys who love to fight, and we're going to find out who's the man...
I haven't heard anything about [coaching on The Ultimate Fighter with a win], and I wouldn't be surprised if they went with someone else, maybe not even in the weight class, because they've done that before. I would love to do it. I don't really know [Cruz] all that well, but I can put up with anybody. Hanging out with me, he's going to realize that I'm just cool and I'm also going to beat him up."
-UFC 128 co-headliner Urijah Faber talks to MMAWeekly.com about why he took the fight with Eddie Wineland for this weekend instead of waiting for UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz to heal, as well as his thoughts on potentially coaching on The Ultimate Fighter against Cruz.
Penick's Analysis: Faber isn't looking past Wineland, but a second fight with Cruz and a chance to become a UFC Champion is definitely on his mind. He's got a formidable task on Saturday, as Wineland has come on very strong over his last several fights, but surely the UFC sees this fight as a feature for Faber to introduce him to the UFC audience. This card has two fighters that have been extremely hyped up, and the UFC's plans could be blown up for both of them depending on what happens on Saturday.
