If you have visited the revamped UFC.com in recent weeks you may have noticed a great new feature on the fighter specific pages, where they now have statistics for fighters ranging from strikes to takedowns and more. These have been provided by the site FightMetric.com, who on Wednesday were named the official statistics provider to the UFC.
Here's the full details straight from FightMetric:
"FightMetric® is now the official statistics provider of the Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®), supplying the world's first comprehensive mixed martial arts (MMA) statistics and analysis system to the largest MMA organization in the world. The inclusion of official FightMetric data into the evaluation of both fights and fighters will, for the first time ever, provide media members and fans with a chance to track the history and performance of UFC competitors beyond simple wins and losses.
The FightMetric system utilizes a precise and scientific methodology to analyze MMA bouts across 67 statistical categories, encompassing all strikes, takedowns, submissions, and position changes. In addition to raw statistics, FightMetric is at the vanguard of advanced MMA analytics, creating a proprietary algorithm to produce an overall Effectiveness Score and pioneering the use of other metrics to foster greater understanding of how MMA bouts are fought.
'We are very proud to be the official statistics provider of the UFC, who we have worked closely with for several years,' said Rami Genauer, FightMetric creator. 'As the industry-leader in MMA statistics, FightMetric is poised to provide its unique brand of combat intelligence to the biggest mixed martial arts organization in the world. We are also thrilled to bring enhanced use of our statistics to the new design of their website.'
Genauer continued, 'UFC fans will now have access to a set of data more powerful than anything previously available in MMA history. Our hope is that access to this data will only increase appreciation for the amazing athletes who compete in the UFC. Sports fans who are accustomed to seeing performance data on their favorite baseball and football players can now engage UFC fighters on a similar level.'
FightMetric provides its clients, including the UFC, with live round-by-round data during MMA events. The information is available online at UFC.com and other FightMetric partner sites, with FightMetric statistics powering fighter profile and events pages."
Be sure to keep an eye out for the implementation of this partnership further into the UFC as they move on with events.
Penick's Analysis: This is a great thing for the UFC, for FightMetric and for the sport in general. The CompuStrike statistics have been a staple on the Showtime and CBS broadcasts, but in my opinion FightMetric's far more comprehensive analysis provides a much better look into how fights play out. Hopefully we get to start seeing these statistics make their way to the UFC's broadcasts in a similar way to how CompuStrike is used for Strikeforce. Congratulations to FightMetric, it's a much deserved partnership for the great work they do there.

"There's still a large contingent of people, that they just want to see these guys almost die, or the other guy almost die and come back, and sometimes fights are like that. Certainly they are. But sometimes you get technical masterpieces too, and to hate a beautiful, technical fight - you're not really a fight fan...
Diaz has a granite chin, possesses perhaps the best recovery in the sport, his pace and conditioning are second to none and he sets records with the volume of his punches almost every time he steps into the cage. "There was a lot of poison going on around there and I'm really disappointed because we had a good thing going. It was a good thing and I think people's egos got in the way. Well, not people just Javier, his ego got in the way, and too many cameras in the gym and him trying to build himself up and his brand, his AKA brand...
