That didn't take long.
Hours after the news came out that UFC 121 would be coming to the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., on October 23, the event now has its headliner.
According to a report from Ariel Helwani at MMAFighting.com, Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez have signed on for a Heavyweight Championship bout for this card.
Lesnar retained his title last Saturday at UFC 116 in Las Vegas, submitting Interim title holder Shane Carwin by arm triangle choke in the second round.
Velasquez has been waiting in the wings since knocking out Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110 in February. Velasquez is 8-0 in his MMA career, with six of those wins coming in the UFC.
Penick's Analysis: This seemed like the perfect spot to put this fight together, and this event may have been put together because of this fight. With Lesnar's wife having a baby soon and him being medically suspended until mid-August, the September 25 UFC 119 card was going to be too soon for him to return. Pushing the timetable back a month gives both fighters plenty of time to get in a full fight camp, and with UFC 120 on Spike the week before it allows plenty of opportunity to hype the hell out of this fight. This is going to be a huge event and another massive fight for Brock Lesnar.
