Hope for a really quick Brock Lesnar return to the Octagon has been squashed, as Ariel Helwani at MMAFighting.com reports that his fight with Cain Velasquez will not take place at UFC 119 in September.
Helwani got the news straight from Dana White, who texted, "Reports that Brock is fighting in Indy Sept. 25 are false."
Lesnar retained his UFC Heavyweight Championship with a second round submission victory over Shane Carwin last Saturday at UFC 116. Velasquez has been waiting in the wings since his February knockout victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
UFC 119 will take place from the Canseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 25. The event remains without a headliner.
Penick's Analysis: The way White worded that I'm not sold that this fight can't take place in September. He's saying that reports of the fight being set are false, but it could be construed to mean that while those reports are false, it's only because nothing's been set yet. I wouldn't hold out much hope for the fight coming to this card, but I wouldn't necessarily take this to mean it can't happen. For now, however, it's a no go until there is an official announcement of the event's headliner.
