The Nevada State Athletic Commission has handed down medical suspensions to the fighters from last Saturday's UFC 116 event, and Brock Lesnar's suspension may make a September return difficult.

Lesnar is out until August 18 with no contact until August 3 because of lacerations on his face sustained in his title defense over Shane Carwin.

No fighters were suspended past September 2, but a number of fighters received the 60 day suspension. The full list of
medical suspensions are below:

• Brock Lesnar until Aug 18 with no contact until Aug 3 due to right eyelid and left eyebrow lacerations.

• Shane Carwin until Sept 2 with no contact until Aug. 18.

• Yoshihiro Akiyama until Aug 18 with no contact until Aug 3

• Chris Leben is suspended until Aug. 3 with no contact until July 25 due to having a tough fight

• Krzysztof Soszynski is suspended until Sept 2 with no contact until Aug 18 at a minimum. He must have his left thumb cleared or he is suspended until Dec 31.

• Stephan Bonnar is suspended until Aug 18 with no contact until Aug 3 due to facial lacerations.

• Kurt Pellegrino is suspended until Aug 18 with no contact until Aug 3 at a minimum. He must have his his left knee cleared or he is suspended until Dec 31.

• Chris Tuchscherer is suspended until Sept 2 with no contact until Aug 18 at a minimum due to a right cheek laceration. He must clear his left ear with an ear, nose, and throat doctor or he is suspended until Dec. 31.

• Seth Petruzelli is suspended until Sept 2 with no contact until Aug 18 at a minimum. He must have a right elbow strain cleared or he is suspended until Dec. 31.

• Ricardo Romero is suspended until Sept 2 with no contact until Aug 18 at a minimum. He must have a broken left lower jaw cleared or he is suspended until Dec. 31.

• David Branch is suspended until Sept 2 with no contact until Aug 18.

Penick's Analysis: If Lesnar can get back into training in early August he may be able to put in a full camp to train for Cain Velasquez, but I don't know if I'd have high hopes for that fight coming to UFC 119. The cuts were definitely going to be a factor in that situation, and it really just depends on how Lesnar is able to swing training camp and if he and his camp feel they'll have enough time to prepare for the fight at the end of September. I suppose we'll find out in the next month or so whether he can get things together in time to take that fight then.
