...OH, ONE MORE THING - PLEASE BOOKMARK US & VISIT DAILY!
MMATorch reader Ian Saul sent the following notes from Saudi Arabia, where he currently stationed for work.
-The advertisements have started running for UFC 110 and at the end of each advert is a 20 second spot advertising the on sale date (tomorrow) for UFC112. It appears that UFC112 will be the first UFC event on PPV in the KSA at a price of 60SAR (roughly $16 U.S.), about the same as they charge for WWE PPV's here.
-Something new is that several of the large companies in Saudi Arabia are having BBQ's with the event shown on a big screen. This is totally unheard of for any event with the exception of the religious addresses during the pilgrimages to Mecca. To put this into prospective, this country has no cinema's, no concerts (except in the Embassy's and the King's buildings), and no organized large events. Abu Dhabi is obviously a different case and they are set up for events like this but in the KSA this is big news.
-The confusion over who Silva's opponent will be is the most talked about thing over all as he is seen as the show's big star among fans. UFC is the talk of the community already.
-The t-shirts they sell here related to UFC have to be simplified as not to contain symbols that could be seen as having a religious connotation, which may also explain the simplified colors and layout for the UFC 112 poster, also. In Abu Dhabi, the shoulders of Gracie and Hughes are covered in a black t-shirt.
