The UFC experience will branch out to another outlet this March when UFC 111 airs live in movie theaters across the country. The UFC Welterweight Title is on the line in the main event, as Georges "Rush" St. Pierre takes on Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy. An Interim Heavyweight Champion will also be crowned when Frank Mir and Shane Carwin face off.
In conjunction with NCM Fathom, the UFC will bring four events to the big screen in 2010, starting with this card from Newark, NJ.
It will be a a unique new way for fans to catch a major event nationwide, and another way for the UFC to bring in revenue. For the fans that show up, they'll get a chance to take in the excitement with hundreds of other spectators, emulating partially the live experience of a big event.
Floyd Mayweather's return engagement last September against Juan Manuel Marquez was the last major combat sport event to team up with Fathom Events to air in theaters, and should this prove to be a successful endeavor expect to see even more in store for the UFC after 2010.
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
